Electricity Rates & Options
Customer Choice
If you’re a residential or small business customer that pays Time-of-Use (TOU) electricity prices, you can choose to switch to Tiered prices beginning November 1, 2020.
To switch from TOU to Tiered prices, you will need to notify Oakville Hydro either by completing an election form or by contacting us at 905-825-9400 (Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM).
You may wish to continue paying TOU prices for your electricity. In that case, no action is required.

Ontario Electricity Rebate
On November 1, 2019, the Ontario government launched the Ontario Electricity Rebate (OER), which started being applied to bills for most residential consumers, farms and many small businesses. Effective November 1, 2022, the OER changed to 11.70% (from 17%). The OER is a pre-tax credit that appears at the bottom of electricity bills.
If you have a residential or small business (general service less than 50 kW) account with Oakville Hydro, you do not need to do anything. You will automatically receive the OER. Learn more and see if your business qualifies at this link.
For a typical residential customer living in Oakville who uses 700 kWh of electricity per month with TOU pricing, the OER would decrease bills by approximately $13.40 per month. For a typical residential customer living in Oakville who uses 700 kWh of electricity per month with Tiered pricing, the OER would decrease bills by approximately $12.94 each month.

Distribution Charges - January 1 to December 31, 2022
At Oakville Hydro, we purchase the electricity we deliver to customers at market prices and earns no margin on the sale of the commodity. Oakville Hydro’s charges account for approximately 24% of the total bill for a typical residential customer.
The other charges on your bill are collected by Oakville Hydro on behalf of other electricity market participants, including generators, transmitters, retailers and regulators.
