Small Business Consumers
Rates – February 23 to April 30, 2021
Beginning February 23, 2021, residential and small business customers will resume paying Time-of-Use (TOU) and Tiered pricing under the Regulated Price Plan (RPP) at prices that were set by the Ontario Energy Board (OEB) on December 15, 2020. To learn more, visit this link or www.oeb.ca
Customer Choice
If you’re a residential or small business customer that pays TOU electricity prices, you can choose to switch to Tiered prices.
With TOU, the price you pay depends on when you use electricity. With Tiered prices, you can use a certain amount of electricity each month at a lower price. Once that limit is exceeded, a higher price applies.
If you want to continue paying TOU prices, no action is required. If you would like to learn more about your pricing options, visit www.oakvillehydro.com/customerchoice or visit the Ontario Energy Board website at this link.
Rate Changes for Class A and B (Large Commercial and Industrial Customers) Effective January 1, 2021
As of January 1, 2021, the Ontario government began funding a portion of renewable energy contract costs, resulting in electricity cost relief.
Also as of January 1, 2021, the Ontario government began recovering Global Adjustment payments, which were deferred between April and June 2020.
In 2021, Class A and non-RPP Class B customers could see net savings of 11-12% on their bills as a result of these two initiatives (actual savings will depend on location and consumption).
Do you have questions about the Global Adjustment deferral? Click here for answers to frequently asked questions.
Ontario Electricity Rebate
On November 1, 2019, the Ontario Electricity Rebate started being applied to bills for most residential consumers, farms and many small businesses.
The Ontario Electricity Rebate provides a 21.2% rebate on electricity charges for eligible customers. It will appear on your hydro bill as a single item. To learn more about the Ontario Electricity Rebate, visit the OEB website at this link.
If you have a residential or small business (general service less than 50 kW) account with Oakville Hydro, you do not need to do anything. You will automatically receive the Ontario Electricity Rebate. Learn more and see if your business qualifies at this link.
Retail Contracts
If you buy electricity from an electricity retailer instead of Oakville Hydro, the prices you pay will be based on the contract you signed with the retailer.
Delivery
This is the cost of delivering electricity from generating stations across the province to your business through transmission and distribution power lines. Delivery charges are approved by the OEB. Some of these are fixed at a set amount per month. Others are variable and increase or decrease depending on how much electricity you use. Delivery charges include:
Oakville Hydro Distribution Charges:
Customer Service Charge: A fixed charge for costs relating to meter reading, billing, customer service and account maintenance, and general utility operations.
Hydro One Transmission Charges:
Transmission Charge: A variable charge for the costs of transmitters to operate and maintain the high-voltage transmission system that carries electricity from generating stations to Oakville Hydro.
Loss Adjustment:
When electricity is delivered over a power line, it is normal for a small amount of power to be consumed, or lost, as heat. In calculating your electricity costs for the billing period, Oakville Hydro multiplies your electricity cost by an OEB-approved adjustment factor that accounts for those losses.
