New Electricity Rates in Effect May 1, 2016

The Ontario Energy Board (OEB) recently announced changes to electricity rates across the province.

Effective May 1, 2016, the Time-of-Use Rates are:

  • On-peak (11:00a.m. to 5:00p.m. weekdays) = 18.0¢/kWh (an increase of 0.5¢)
  • Mid-peak (7:00a.m. to 11:00a.m. and 5:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. weekdays) = 13.2¢/kWh (an increase of 0.4¢)
  • Off-peak (7:00p.m. to 7:00a.m. weekdays, weekends and statutory holidays) = 8.7¢/kWh (an increase of 0.4¢)

The price for electricity for residential customers with a typical consumption pattern who use 750 kWh per month will increase by approximately $3.13 per month.

The ratio between on and off-peak prices is more than 2:1. This means that customers who shift use to evenings and weekends will see a reward for doing so.

Oakville Hydro's portion of a residential customer’s electricity bill is approximately 19%, which forms part of the delivery charge line on electricity bills.

Visit the OEB website for more information on rate changes and electricity pricing.
