A special weather statement remains in place for Oakville for Saturday and Sunday – April 14 and 15 – for a potential ice storm. This type of extreme weather can cause lengthy power outages caused by ice buildup on overhead power lines and high winds.
If you see a downed power line, stay back at least 10 metres/33 feet (the length of s school bus), call 911 and Oakville Hydro at 905-825-9400 immediately.
Prior to a storm, ensure you have essentials on hand, including: flashlights, radio, extra batteries, candles and matches, water, fuel or an alternate heat source, canned food and can opener. Also, ensure cell phones are fully charged.
