(Oakville, ON) June 17, 2016 – Significant energy conservation efforts made at the new Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital were recognized today, with representatives from Halton Healthcare, Oakville Hydro, the Independent Electricity System Operator (“IESO”), the Town of Oakville and the Province of Ontario on hand for the celebration.
With the assistance of Oakville Hydro, Halton Healthcare received over $920,000 towards energy efficiency equipment at the new Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital through an incentive offered by the IESO’s Save on Energy HIGH PERFORMANCE NEW CONSTRUCTION (“HPNC”) program.
The HPNC program provides design assistance and incentives for building owners and planners who design and implement energy efficient equipment within their new space. Modifications include energy recovery systems, energy efficient LED lighting and controls, high efficiency boilers and chillers with variable volume air handling and pumping systems and water reduction systems, all of which were designed to reduce the energy intensity of the facility.
“It is great to have Halton Healthcare participate in one of the Save on Energy programs, which saves energy and costs over the long term. The measures put in place avoid an electrical demand of 3,252 kW and reduce electrical consumption of over 16,700,000 kWh annually. This is enough energy to supply 1,850 homes in Oakville with electricity annually.” – Rob Lister, President and CEO, Oakville Hydro
“Energy conservation programs have been tremendous in helping Oakville businesses reduce both their environmental footprint and their energy bill. By incorporating energy efficiency equipment into its state-of-the-art facilities, the new hospital is able to support a healthier, greener and more livable Oakville.” – Oakville Mayor Rob Burton
“Ontario commends Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital and Oakville Hydro for working together to get the details right on energy efficiency. Their energy efficient decisions mean that this building will not only cost less to operate, but it will produce fewer greenhouse gas emissions, bringing forward the government’s collective effort to reduce greenhouse gas pollution to fight climate change, as well as creating efficiencies and savings for Ontarians over the next five years.” – Oakville MPP Kevin Flynn
“The whole community benefits when organizations such as the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital take advantage of the IESO’s Save on Energy incentive programs to manage their electricity use and reduce costs. In this case, energy efficiency was literally built into the plans for the hospital from the ground up. We are pleased to support this project, and we encourage other organizations and businesses to find out what Save on Energy programs can do for you.” – Terry Young, Vice-President, Conservation and Corporate Relations, IESO
“The new Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital is a thoughtfully designed, state-of-the-art centre of healthcare excellence. Although eight storeys tall and 1.6 million square feet in size, OTMH is very energy efficient, incorporating many innovative technologies to reduce its environmental footprint.
This incentive award is evidence of our commitment to the environment. This fabulous new building is designed to LEED® Silver standards and we are proud to have been recognized by the High Performance New Construction incentive program for achieving a Tier 3 level of more than 50% energy savings.” – Denise Hardenne, President and CEO, Halton Healthcare
