Health and Safety Policy


Oakville Hydro Corporation is committed to the health and safety of our employees, suppliers, contractors, customers, and the communities we serve. It is our aim to design, construct and maintain an electrical and communication system that is safe for the people. We undertake the responsibility to inform our communities of any potential electrical or environmental hazards of which we as a Corporation have knowledge. As a Corporation, we will endeavor to be a community leader in promoting electrical safety awareness, helping to avoid serious electrical injury to the people we service.

Oakville Hydro Corporation in our day-to-day operation utilizes an integrated management system allowing us to monitor performance in several areas. This system includes an assessment of employee risks as well as the review, improvement and implementation of new programs to meet our business objectives and goals for safety, health and environmental programs. We as a corporation are committed to the promotion of The Internal Responsibility System to ensure everyone at Oakville Hydro Corporation develops a personal commitment and responsibility to contribute and participate in making their workplace safer for themselves, co-workers, suppliers, contractors, and the general public. As the employer, Oakville Hydro is committed to zero tolerance of unsafe acts, conditions or work practices, which are not acceptable to our corporation’s health and safety commitment. We believe that all accidents, injuries and occupational illnesses at Oakville Hydro Corporation can be prevented once we as an organization identify and implement measures to eliminate the cause.

Oakville Hydro Corporation, Electricity Distribution Inc, Energy Services Inc, Blink Communication and El-Con Construction will take all reasonable measures to provide employees with a healthy and safe environment which encourages employee wellness initiatives and provides the appropriate training, tools and equipment to assist the employee in performing their duties in a legal, safe and efficient manner.

Supervisors will be held accountable for the health and safety actions of employees under their supervision and shall ensure that all equipment, vehicles and machinery are safe to operate and properly maintained. Each supervisor shall ensure that all employees under their supervision are following the safe work laws, standards, guidelines, regulations, policies, procedures and practices as outlined in the Occupational Health and Safety Act / Regulations, Electrical and Utilities Association rule book and safe practice guides, MTO and those of the employer Oakville Hydro Corporation.

Workers are required to follow the above responsibilities and will be given appropriate tools, equipment and training in their specific work tasks to protect their health and safety. In addition, workers must consider their own responsibilities in maintaining a positive attitude towards health, safety and environmental matters and to promote safety through good example to co-workers at all times.

Contractors will be expected to work in accordance with Oakville Hydro Corporation’s Health and Safety Policy and Procedures, OH&SA/Regulations and those of the E&USA rule book and MTO Book 7. It is in the best interest of all workplace parties to consider health and safety in their everyday activities at work and home. A strong commitment to health and safety must be a primary and fundamental element of Oakville Hydro Corporation to be embraced by all employees.
