Oakville Hydro Energy Service Inc. is pleased to announce the introduction of its new “ Interval Metering at the Transformer ” program . Working closely with Oakville Hydro Electricity Distribution, Oakville Hydro Energy Services engineered and implemented this new approach to electricity metering which resulted in the installation of electricity meters at utility pad-mount transformers instead of on the side of customers homes. This innovative approach to metering is expected to become the standard for metering in Oakville.

OHESI uses the Measurement Canada approved Quadlogic MC5 Meter which is designed to meter up to 24 electrical services. The Quadlogic Meter measures energy consumption on a 15 minute interval basis thereby supporting various rate structures such as Interval Billing or Time of Use (TOU). In addition to reading energy, the meters can also provide power quality data such as voltage, amperage and harmonic content

The meter is extremely compact and is mounted behind the distribution transformer in a small cabinet. The meters are read remotely on a regular basis using a combination of power line carrier technology and telephone communication and are capable of reading other utility meters such as gas. Remote electricity and water meter reading eliminates meter readers visiting customers homes to manually retrieve monthly or bi-monthly meter readings. The introduction of this metering at the transformer concept will also introduce a deterrent to power diversion and reduce utility losses associated with theft of electricity.

Quadlogic Meters recently received an interface module for Itron's MV-90 software, a system widely employed by utilities and companies across North America to remotely interrogate electricity meters. This functionality will provide users of Quadlogic meters with a broad selection of meter reading service providers.
