Energy Conservation

Going Away?

Don’t waste energy when you’re not at home. Before you go away consider the following:

  • Instead of leaving lights on, use a timer.
  • Be sure to unplug all of your unnecessary appliances, such as the TV, DVD, etc.
  • To save energy, unplug all clocks (even appliances with clocks such as coffee makers).
  • Raise the temperature inside your refrigerator, or if possible empty the contents and leave it off.
  • Turn up your air conditioner thermostat – better yet shut your air conditioner off.
  • Turn down your heat thermostat.
  • Use the vacation setting or turn off the water heater if you are going to be away for more than a long weekend.
  • Turn off any humidifiers and dehumidifiers.
  • Turn off or lower your swimming pool heater.
  • Keep window coverings closed.
  • Lower waterbed temperatures and make sure they are well covered.
  • Make sure all taps are not leaking and are turned off.
Keep your hydro bill at its lowest while you are away and have fun!
