Oakville Hydro Electricity Distribution Inc. (Oakville Hydro), regulated by the Ontario Energy Board, is an electricity distribution company. Using a sophisticated network of remotely switched power lines of approximately 1,400 km, Oakville Hydro has reliably delivered energy to homes and businesses for over a century. Oakville Hydro offers customer service to developers and consumers, as well as designs, builds and maintains Oakville’s state-of-the-art power distribution system. In 2013, Oakville Hydro was recognized as “Large Company of the Year” by the Ontario Energy Association for excellence in service delivery and safety.

Notice of Application and Hearing

Oakville Hydro has applied to the Ontario Energy Board to increase the amount it charges for distributing electricity by approximately $0.03 each month for a typical residential customer starting on January 1, 2016. Other customers, including businesses, may be affected as well. The Ontario Energy Board will hold a public hearing to consider Oakville Hydro’s request. Debt Retirement Charge

Effective January 1, 2016, all electricity users with a residential rate class account will be exempt from the Debt Retirement Charge (DRC).

Electricity users with a general service rate class account that provides electricity to one or more 'eligible residential units' will also be eligible for a DRC exemption up to 1,500 kilowatt hours (kWh) per month multiplied by the number of eligible residential units included in the account.

To claim this DRC exemption, please complete the Self-Declaration Form Debt Retirement Charge Exemption.

New OEB Program Offers Electricity Bill Relief for Low-Income Households

The Ontario Energy Board (OEB) is helping make electricity more affordable for low-income households. The Ontario Electricity Support Program, or OESP, will provide ongoing assistance directly on the bills of eligible low-income electricity consumers.

Low-income households that apply and qualify will receive an OESP credit on electricity bills. The credit amount will be based on the number of people living in the home and their total household income. For some consumers, the need to use more electricity is unavoidable. They may receive a higher level of assistance. These are people who rely on electric heat or medical devices as well as First Nation and Métis consumers.

The program, designed and implemented by the OEB, will come into effect on January 1, 2016. Applications are now being accepted. Consumers can apply online or with the assistance of local intake agency partners, including Low-Income Energy Assistance Program Emergency Financial Assistance intake agencies.

We want to assure our customers that Oakville Hydro Electricity Distribution Inc. does not call customers to request account information.

If you receive a phone call, do not provide any information over the telephone unless you are sure who you are speaking to.
